Goals from the news

Britax recalled 114,660 infant car seats whose handle can detach; owners must ask for the fix

A screw in 114,660 Britax infant seats can loosen and let the carry handle detach. The fix is a free clip kit, mailed only to owners who ask. The goal: one on every seat.

What happened

The story, from the record.

On August 20, 2026 Britax Child Safety reported to NHTSA that 114,660 infant car seats made between August 17, 2020 and May 16, 2023 were defective: B-Safe 35, B-Safe Gen2, Gen2 FlexFit, FlexFit+, B-Safe Ultra and Endeavours seats, under 76 model numbers on the company's recall page.

A screw in the hub can loosen and let the carry handle partly detach, and a child may fall. Reviewing more than ten years of reports, Britax found 217 that alleged the handle detached and 312 more of a loose or wobbly handle. It counted one minor injury reported this August and three since 2016, and no serious ones.

The remedy, two retention clips, became available on September 30, 2026. It is not sent automatically: an owner has to request it online or by phone. Until it is fitted, the seat can still be used, but not carried by its handle.

The newest of these seats is three years old. Many have passed to a second child, a relative or a resale buyer who never registered it, and each one still needs two clips.

How OneShot would run it

The goal this leaves open.

OneShot was not involved in this event. This is how the goal it describes would run as one OneShot goal: what one case is, when the goal is done, the steps per case, and the known tool costs for one pass.

The goal

Get the clip kit onto every recalled seat still in use, including the ones that changed hands.

One case
One seat, by model number and manufacture date.
Starts
When the registered-owner list is loaded, and whenever a resale listing or a car seat check turns up an unregistered seat.
Done when
Every seat ends with the kit shipped and the owner confirming it is fitted, confirmed outside the recall, confirmed destroyed, or unreached once the contact rule runs out.
Keeps trying
An email and a letter, a call two weeks later, a second letter after a month, then the seat is marked unreached.
Asks a person before
Every notice sent in Britax's name, and every message to a resale seller.
