The story, from the record.
In a February 2025 memo after the $2.7 billion Neiman Marcus acquisition, Saks Global CEO Marc Metrick acknowledged an 18-month backlog of unpaid vendor invoices and promised to clear it in 12 monthly installments starting in July 2025.
By August, vendors including Sunday Riley said the payments had not begun. The company reported first-quarter revenue of $1.6 billion, down 16%, and a net loss of $232 million.
Saks Global filed for Chapter 11 in the Southern District of Texas on January 13, 2026 with $1.75 billion in debtor-in-possession financing and more than 10,000 creditors. The largest unsecured claims were Chanel at $136 million, Kering at $59.9 million, Capri at $33.3 million and Christian Louboutin at $21.6 million. On February 20 the court approved allocating $600 million to vendors, with up to $330 million for overdue invoices within two weeks.
For a brand with a receivable at Saks, the work ran for more than a year: statements, calls, promised dates, missed dates, then a claim to file and a docket to watch. Most vendor finance teams have a handful of people for all of their customers.
